The Merindas are a Melbourne based duo consisting of Candice and Kristel who met in Perth eight years ago where they discovered that they had a mutual love in music. They quickly became best friends and created the unique sound of electronic pop with a dance-hall feel which we know as The Merindas. This electronic pop sound often takes on hip-hop and R&B influences to add to the distinct brand of music put forward by Candice and Kristel, full of vibrant hooks and soaring harmonies.
“We strut onto the stage with double the amount of swagger and sass with our youthful electro vibes.”
The Merindas let their family, friends, and culture drive them to continue making music. Both artists have been singing from a young age and share the musical dream that seems to be ingrained in their DNA. They both come from families of musicians and draw their musical inspiration from life and love. The duo hope to continue to make hits in the hope that they may embark on an international tour in the future.
As a part of #TheBIGSOUND50 in 2020, The Merindas are looking forward to getting their name out there and meeting other artists and people in the music industry. They’re no strangers to BIGSOUND, having played in 2018 which they call their “intro to what it’s all about.”
“The end game is to build a foundation and an arts hub for First Nations artists.”
The Merindas have found their time during the current pandemic to be helpful and inspiring. They’ve been able to see a large number of amazing First Nations artists rising in the Music Industry because of social media. Like many other artists, they found the necessity to begin live streaming helped them develop their online content and better engage with their quickly-growing audience.
