#About BIRDZ

Melbourne based Butchulla man and Rapper/Songwriter BIRDZ has been releasing music since 2013. Often inspired by his family’s story and heritage, he first signed with Bad Apples Music in 2015, released his debut album 'Train of Thought' (2017) and 'The Place of Dreams' EP (2019); and is currently working on his next full-length album which is set to be released in 2021. At a BIRDZ live show you can expect “energy and backing by world-class DJ Danielsan and Myka Wallace on drums.”

“Music has always been the one passion of mine that’s never wavered.”

Performing music live is the most important part of this music-making journey for BIRDZ because it’s an opportunity to share his story and “form a direct connection with audiences.” BIRDZ is excited to be able to showcase music at BIGSOUND and share it with new audiences as a part of #TheBIGSOUND50.

Ultimately, BIRDZ wants what most musicians want, to be a full-time artist and songwriter. In ten years time, he sees himself as an established and successful songwriter who is writing and collaborating with some of the biggest names in both the global and Australian music industries. Right now, though, BIRDZ wants to focus on expanding his artist brand and pushing himself creatively so that he can produce his best work yet in his upcoming sophomore album. He’s been using his time during isolation to keep himself on track.

“It’s been hard not performing live and I can’t wait to get back on stage.” BIRDZ says. He has tried to use his creativity to help keep his mental health intact and stay motivated for the future. While he’s been “fortunate enough to have the resources at home to still create” he thinks that “‘performing is still one of the most effective ways to connect with people” and he’s interested to discover what performing is going to look like in a post-COVID world.
