#About Jordan Dennis

For the past few years, Melbourne’s Jordan Dennis has been crafting a sonic amalgamation of his own expanding inspirations and experiences, taking cues from his favourite storytellers including J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, and Frank Ocean. Blending Hip Hop, RnB, and Soul, Jordan Dennis sets out to create a hyped live show, packing enough energy into every set to assure each member of the crowd leaves sweaty from non-stop dancing and bouncing.

“What keeps me going is knowing that I'm always in the process of evolving, in everything I do. Inspiration comes from bringing enjoyment to people, but more importantly the comfort and guidance in being transparent about the toughest parts of my experiences.”

Dennis is working hard to be a leader in the Australian Hip-Hop scene and beyond, and hopes that his placement in #TheBIGSOUND50 is just the start of that journey. Having already cut his teeth at BIGSOUND playing with Billy Davis and The Good Lords in 2017, Dennis plans to get his music in front of festival and event bookers, international agents, scouts and key industry personnel.

His musical to-do list is packed with plans that could be on the horizon sooner rather than later, including “build[ing] a strong collective of artists, building a strong legacy with visuals to accompany, freestyle on Sway In The Morning, grace a key magazine cover, stay in love with music, and in 10 years, hopefully we can build an empire of music giving strength to unheard voices."

Having spent 2020 among those restricted in Melbourne, Dennis “feels like playing fields could be a little levelled and there is heavy importance placed on local music. I just feel that when it opens up again the hunger for music will be real!”

Embracing a hometown-built reputation for dynamic on-stage energy, and matching it with equal fire in every release, Melbourne’s Jordan Dennis is on a fast-rising come up, garnering attention from Australian tastemakers at every turn. From Dennis’ debut solo release in 2018’s neo-soul bop ‘Crumbs’ feat. Blasko, harder-hitting follow-up in ‘Glide Freestyle’, and 2020’s ‘Doc Marty’ and ‘The Link’, the whip-smart MC has continued to evolve in his expression with a fierce lyrical aptitude on display, first and foremost. Now with solo success at his doorstep, citing influences among the likes of JID, J. Cole and Mick Jenkins, Dennis’ confidence has surged from freestyles among his closest confidants and a supportive musical family to shaping his solo act and climbing to stardom in a minute. His fervour from strength-to-strength has cemented a tight signature, unafraid to curve between genre and showcase an ability the nation has only tasted.
