Jervis Bay nineteen year olds Noah and Alex have been best mates since pre-school. Playing music together since high school, they serve up larger-than-life coastal punk as Debbies (not ‘The Debbies’, thank you very much).
“We like to think of it as, like, meaningful, hard-hitting pop-punky sounding stuff - music that gets you in the feels but also makes you feel bright and bubbly.”
Announced as finalists for triple j's 2019 Unearthed High competition, the boys went on to nab fezzy slots at Yours & Owls and Falls Festival. “Our live shows tend to be hectic - lots of beer, sweat, energy and fun, all while being safe.” The live experience is a big inspiration when it comes to writing songs for the band, who always consider what songs will sound like in front of a massive crowd, or if an audience was singing the lyrics back to the stage.
Debbies join #TheBIGSOUND50 line-up with a mission. “One thing we really want to get out of being a part of BIGSOUND is some form of a team. For ages, we've just been handling everything on our own, and it would be awesome to find someone who loves Debbies as much as we do to jump on board with us and come along our journey.” Don’t say we didn’t tell you!
With a handful of well-received singles under their belt, including their latest, 'Influencer', the duo have a 5-track EP locked and loaded for release in 2020/2021. They’re looking forward to the comeback of live music, and have got fingers crossed for a set at Splendour in the Grass or Laneway Festival in the future. “The thought of eventually playing huge gigs and showing off what we've done is really cool!”
