The events of 2020 have so far reminded the music industry of the importance of community, survival and refuturing. As the mainstream sector attempts to realign with these values, the global Indigenous music industry continues to operate as it always has: by putting the needs of community first, protecting stories and visioning the future. Although the identities and knowledges of Indigenous peoples in so-called Australia and across the oceans are varied, there is a commonality in how we approach our work within the music space. This community orientated discussion will provide lessons in survivance, longevity and protecting the role of music in our lives.
